Céline Dion tickets are certainly a hot commodity, as her show is consistently ranked as one of the best shows in Vegas. In fact, more than ranking as a best show, Céline Dion Las Vegas is ranked as the most profitable music act since Elvis Presley Las Vegas. This is a huge feat!
Céline Dions first show at Caesars Palace ran from 2003-2007 and it was called A New Day After Dion watched O Las Vegas by Franco Dragone, she knew Dragone was what her show needed. And wow was she right! Her show was well-received by audiences, routinely selling out during its run at Caesars. Show tickets were expensive, with the average price just under $140. However, it was a smashing success by any account.
After Dion finished A New Day she began a world tour. She returned to Caesars Palace in March 2011, with a three-year contract and her new show has no title. It is simply Céline Dion in residency.
Céline announced her Vegas comeback during an appearance on Oprah and tickets went on sale that same week. Her opening show on March 15, 2011, sold out within minutes. And before the show even opened, ticket sales exceeded $10 million dollars, making it the fastest sale in the history of the venue. Dion had a total of 53 shows in 2011 and gross ticket sales exceeded $34 million dollars with a 98% of all seats sold. Her shows were completely sold out in every month she performed, except the summer months which were only 96% sold out. This is incredibly impressive as tourism in Las Vegas reaches a major summer slump when temperatures soar into the triple digits.
The Canadian superstar’s new residency show involves several blasts from the past, including big screen televisions on the stage that show a very young Céline Dion with bushy eyebrows and heavier features, nearly unrecognizable as the diva she is today.
Dion also includes many clips of her tour that took her to destinations around the world. The videos show several clips of Dion showcasing her new trademark symbol. This involves raising her right arm in the air and saying: Is that alright _____ (fill-in-the-blank with the city or country name)?!?!?! One of the songs she performs is a cover of is Cindy Laupers I Drove All Night and the lyrics are: I drove all night to get to you Is that alright? I drove all night. I think she borrowed her new catch phrase from this song, which also happened to be my favorite song that she sang in the entire show.
She is also much more humble than the Céline Dion of the past. Her reputation in Las Vegas is one of diva quality. She has a helicopter launch pad at her home, which is a 30 minute drive to the Las Vegas Boulevard Strip perhaps up to 45 minutes in heavy traffic. Her neighbors were constantly complaining of the noise, as sometimes she returned to her home very late. Céline was also famous for sick calls calling in sick and cancelling her show often. She is also famous for her husband’s frequent casino visits. His reported to spend a lot of time sitting at slot machines and letting the staff know he is indeed married to Céline Dion. Her new show displayed none of these diva-ish qualities and had I not lived in Las Vegas for 20 years, reading the local papers and listening to industry insiders who have worked with her, I would not have believed this humble and grateful star was the same woman.
Céline Dion in residency plays at various times at Caesars Palace, depending on her schedule. Elton John used to play in her showroom when Céline was not scheduled, but now that position is taken by Scottish superstar, Rod Stewart. Check the Caesars Palace website for more details on Céline Dions upcoming shows.
